Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

It is difficult, during times of suffering, to think of the rewards we experience through our trials. There are some lessons we may never understand while we are alive on this earth, but Paul reminded us in Romans that God brings endurance, character, and hope in this life through suffering. One trial today could give us the tools and strength to face many other trials down the road or simply to comfort and encourage another believer who will face similar suffering. We may not fully understand, but we are left with hope in God’s promises and in the eternal reward of living with Him in heaven.
