—Genesis 37:12-17
by: Dorothy Noel.
Prior to this passage, Joseph’s brothers were very angry with him. Still, his father sent him to them. Was this an opportunity for reconciliation? Or was Jacob simply worried about his sons sent so far afield? Either way, Joseph’s immediate obedience is commendable. He quickly responded to his father’s wishes and headed to Shechem. Even when he was unable to find his brothers, he did not return home, knowing his father expected a report, and instead sought help to find his way. How often do we obey at a minimum, doing only what was asked of us—nothing more? How can we be like Joseph and seek to obey the intention of our Father’s instructions for us?
