For the LORD has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his dwelling place:
“This is my resting place forever;
here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
I will abundantly bless her provisions;
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
Her priests I will clothe with salvation,
and her saints will shout for joy.
There I will make a horn to sprout for David;
I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.
His enemies I will clothe with shame,
but on him his crown will shine.”

In David’s time, God chose to dwell in Zion. He desired it and promised to bless it and clothe it in salvation. At that time, it was helpful to have a specific physical location with which the people could associate God’s presence. When Jesus came, God became more personal. The physical location is no longer important. We do not need a priest to speak to God for us but have direct access to Him through Jesus Christ. His presence is always with us through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit. When we allow the Lord to dwell with us, He will bless us as well just as He did in Zion.
