What a powerful prophecy of protection! This prophecy describes how God, the One who created and continuously interacts with the earth, would save Israel both physically and spiritually. It lays out how those who were enemies with God’s people would feel the wrath of God. What is written next is truly astounding—that Israel would earnestly repent, and that, “They will look to me, the one they have pierced” (v.10, NIV). Although it was Zechariah writing, it is clear the original voice of the prophecy is God. The question is: How could Israel pierce God? Why is this significant?'
