Let Pharaoh proceed to appoint overseers over the land and take one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt during the seven plentiful years. And let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it. That food shall be a reserve for the land against the seven years of famine that are to occur in the land of Egypt, so that the land may not perish through the famine.”

Joseph not only interpreted Pharaoh’s dream, he also told Pharaoh how to respond to it. Pharaoh was not a follower of God. But God had plans for how to use Pharaoh’s earthly power to protect God’s chosen people. By providing Joseph with the discernment of the dream and the wisdom of what to do about it, God set up Egypt to survive the famine and to provide a haven for Jacob’s family. This reminds us that God works through the earthly powers He has set up to achieve His means on this earth, regardless of whether or not those powers follow Him. Will you pray for those in authority over you today?
