—Job 14:7-17
by: Dale E. Rood.
This reminds me of Psalm 55:6, where David says, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away, and be at rest.” Job is going further here in wishing he could just die. The trouble is that death is so final. When a tree is cut down, it will begin to sprout again around the stump. But when man dies, that’s it. Job realizes that in verse 14, and resigns himself to wait out the days God has appointed for him, anticipating a change from his present circumstances. He is expressing trust in God. How about you? In your hard times, are you still trusting in God?
