—Ecclesiastes 2:1-11
by: Dale E. Rood.
King Solomon was also known for his great riches, huge projects, and many servants. Here it says that he denied himself no pleasure (v. 10) and that he sought gigantic achievements (v. 11), and yet these produced no meaning for his life either. Seeking wealth and pleasure as an end in itself can produce no satisfaction. There must be more. Yet it is interesting that God wants to prosper us. (Mathew 6:33) Under what conditions might it be good to have great wealth and opportunity for great pleasure?
