—James 5:7-12
by: Leanne Lippincott.
When I was a youngster, I was very impatient. The first time I planted marigold seeds, I was totally frustrated when they didn’t sprout into full-blown flowers three days later. At age 13, after mailing off my first film, I bicycled to the post office every day for a month before my photos finally arrived.
James instructed his Jewish brethren to be patient, like farmers waiting for life-giving rain. They needed to be patient in both their suffering and while waiting for the Lord’s return. James also told them not to grumble against each other. If they did, they would open themselves to judgment.
