—Ecclesiastes 2:18-26
by: Dale E. Rood.
The meaninglessness of life without the Lord causes Solomon to even state that he hates life. (v. 17) He hates the work with which he toils because it seems so useless. He works and works until he dies, then the fruit of all he has done is left to others. Solomon would strongly dispute the statement,“He who dies with the most toys wins!” Solomon is beginning to focus in on what does have meaning here. Satisfaction does not come with all the stuff we get by doing our work, but rather it comes from the work itself. There is meaning in a job well done.
