—Psalm 78:56-62
by: Steve Osborn.
This psalm describes the time in Israel’s history when they were governed by judges. During this period (especially) they perpetuated a pattern of sin/rebellion, punishment, repentance, and restoration. It is easy for us to fall into this same pattern. We sin and just assume that God will happily take us back when we get around to repenting. But, as Israel learned the hard way, there are negative consequences for taking God’s grace for granted. For them, it meant the loss of the Ark of the Covenant. What does it mean for us? When we sin, we damage the intimacy of our relationship with God and hinder our ability to hear and respond to the Holy Spirit. Praise God for His grace, but may we never take it for granted.
