—2 Timothy 2:14-19

One of my seminary professors told us that there were three very important things to remember when studying and teaching scripture: context, context, context. He was emphasizing the importance of handling God's Word correctly. In other words, teach what it says and means, not what we or some other scholars might think or want it to mean. Cults are often formed because scripture is taken out of context. Errors in interpretation come about when we apply our thinking to the Bible rather than letting the Bible form our thoughts. When we handle the Word of God correctly, we need never be ashamed-even if the world thinks differently.
