The tall monastery wall was constructed of hewn stones. It stood so tall that it virtually blocked the light on the north side of the compound. It was very difficult to see where you were walking until you rounded the chapel area. There, two dazzling shafts of golden light streamed into the courtyard through window casings set among the moss-covered rocks. The light bathed everything it touched in illumination. What a representation of prayer. The darkness of any situation can be instantly transformed when the window to heaven is opened through the fervency of a righteous person’s intercession. Everything looks so different when the light shines on it.
