—Jeremiah 22:1-9
by: Jennifer Lewis Berg.
The Kings of Judah were important characters during the time of Jeremiah. Many of Jeremiah’s prophecies were directed right at these kings. Even though Judah held no real power for itself during these times, God wanted the leaders to exemplify strength and wisdom in dealing with His people. God told them straight out to pay close attention to their leadership roles: taking care of the marginalized, restraining from senseless killing, and, most of all, doing “what is just and right” (v.3, NIV). God promises that not keeping His commands will certainly lead to ruin.
