—Psalm 62:1-2, 5-9
by: Andy Samuels.
The discipline of silence is difficult to practice—especially in our age of noise. We tend to be surrounded by noise and even if it is meaningless noise, for the most part, we love it or at least prefer it to the sound of silence. But the Psalmist testified that his soul had learned to wait in silence for God only. Who will you be silent for? The judge in your local courtroom? The start of the race at the track meet? The serve in a tennis match? The Psalmist’s silence before God was both patient and uncomplaining. He waited in hope and would not be demoralized, because God was his rock, stronghold, and salvation. Is He yours?
