—Isaiah 42:18-25
by: Victoria Shephard.
When Babylon conquered Israel, some began to think that perhaps Babylon’s gods were stronger than their God. After all, they had lost and been taken into slavery. But Isaiah reminded them that they were being punished for rebelling against God. Babylon’s gods were not stronger. Isaiah asked them rhetorically, “Who gave Jacob up for spoil, and Israel to plunderers?” (v. 24). He then answered his own question by asking another rhetorical question, “Was it not the Lord?” Even with punishment, Israel did not turn back (v. 25).
