—John 2:1-11
by: Leota Stevens.
This event speaks deeply about the relationship of Mary and Jesus. By this time Mary had thirty years of mothering invested in him, so she was keenly aware of his potential. It was therefore natural for her to take to him the problem of the lack of wine, for she knew that he could do something about it. The interaction of Mary and Jesus is very revealing and very human. Mary didn’t take no for an answer when Jesus explained his time had not yet come. She simply instructed the servants to do whatever her son told them. She believed he would grant her request.
