—Luke 1:67-75

In gratitude for being able to speak again, Zacharias let loose praise that could rival Mary's earlier song of praise. He didn't mention his own blessing or the blessing of the child. Rather, he first prophesied about Jesus. The tense of the language is worth noting here. "For he (God) has visited us and accomplished redemption for his people" (v. 68). To God, redemption was as good as finished, even though Jesus hadn't been born yet! Only God, who lives outside of time as we think of it, can tell the prophets what to say and consider those things already done.
