—John 1:29-34
by: Leota Stevens.
In a culture that practiced animal sacrifice, ordinary lambs, innocent and blameless, were offered for the temporary covering of an individual’s sins. The Lamb of God was also innocent and blameless, but his sacrifice was sufficient to take away the sin of the entire world. In the children’s poem “Mary Had a Little Lamb,” Mary had a problem with the lamb following her wherever she went. I know for a certainty that I don’t want the Lamb of God to follow me—I want to follow him!
