—Ecclesiastes 12:1-8
by: Dale Rood.
How many references can you find to the characteristics of old age in this passage? For example, "the grinders cease because they are few" is a reference to lack of teeth in old age (v. 3, NKJV). Being "afraid of that which is high" (v. 5, NKJV) refers to unsteadiness in old age when you stand up.
Solomon is especially speaking to young people here, telling them to give their lives to God when they are still young and can enjoy that relationship with the robustness of youth. Christianity is not just for older folks; it is especially for youth.
