The theme for this week of lessons is "A Time for Courage." This scripture suggests a characteristic that is necessary for courage: a purpose that is greater than oneself. Peter and John knew their purpose: to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, his atoning death, and his resurrection. It was this purpose that gave them boldness. The Jewish council's command not to preach Jesus went directly against this purpose, and they knew they could not heed it. Is your life purpose clear enough so you will have the boldness to stick to it in the face of all opposition? Is that purpose centered on Jesus?
