—Job 31:24-28
by: Kristin Camenga.
After sharing the evil he has avoided and the good he has done, Job recognizes another way he could have sinned: being unfaithful to God. In our world, it sometimes seems that all that matters is that you are a "good person" in your deeds to others, and devotion to God is ignored. If you avoid hurting people and you give sacrificially to the poor and needy, that is enough, right? Job recognizes this is not enough. At the heart of the matter is his attitude toward God. Job states that he has not trusted wealth or paid homage to the heavenly bodies, but has remained completely loyal to God. At the heart of what we do is whether we are faithful to God in heart and deed.
