—Psalm 90:7-12
by: Dale Rood.
What is the purpose of this passage? It sounds like a prescription for hopelessness and despair! We are consumed by God's anger (v. 7). The days we live in are toil and trouble (v. 9). This, however, is not meant to bring us to despair but to make us aware of our condition so we can face it realistically. Verse 12 has the lesson that Moses, the writer of this psalm, wants us to learn: "Teach us to number our days." We have only limited time while we live on this earth. That is our condition. What are we going to do with it?
