—Hebrews 8:7-13
by: Jerry Johnson.
I often struggle with the tension between law and grace in the New Testament. On one hand, the law is considered holy and good (Romans 7:12), so we should strive to live by it. At the same time, however, it has two major faults-the law cannot make those who break it righteous, and it is unable to provide people with the power to keep its demands.
Fortunately, we have a New Covenant that supercedes the Old in that there is now a possibility for an intimate relationship with God. The basis is not our good works, but rather a new heart and a transformed desire to do his will. Its source is our mediator, Jesus.
