—Nehemiah 4:15-23
by: Angie Osborn.
How exhausted those men must have been! While working, they carried weapons as well as materials. By day they worked; by night they guarded. Where does this passage talk about rest? I got tired just reading the passage! It also made me think: How often do I do the same thing? As a mother of young children, I often feel that I am "on" twenty-four hours a day. It is joyful and exhausting. But God has provided a rest for me! I just need to take it. Unlike Nehemiah's men, I can take a break-a Sabbath break. No, I can't stop being a mother, and, as a pastor's family, sometimes Sabbath is the most "busy" day of the week. Yet it has been set apart. God ordained it as a holy day for worship and rest, a place set aside in our chaotic lives to re-energize. Think of Nehemiah and the workers, and enjoy the blessing of Sabbath rest this week!
