—John 13:18-20
by: Leota Stevens.
I’m so glad that Jesus didn’t take stoically the thought that one of his trusted friends was about to betray him. This verse opens a window into the heart and soul of the Savior. John conveys this message to us in the phrase, “he was troubled in Spirit.” Jesus was hurting down into the very fiber of his being. Had he not loved them all? Had he not clearly shown them who he really was? Yes, he had done all this and more, and still he was being betrayed by one with whom he had shared his life. The pain he experienced at that Passover dinner was one more reason he is qualified to be our comforter, our intercessor and our High Priest.
