My son, do not lose sight of these—
keep sound wisdom and discretion,
and they will be life for your soul
and adornment for your neck.
Then you will walk on your way securely,
and your foot will not stumble.
If you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Do not be afraid of sudden terror
or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes,
for the LORD will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being caught.

Have you ever said the wrong thing at the wrong time and inflicted hurt and embarrassment on yourself or others? Me neither. But, where are wisdom and discretion during those awkward moments? You just had them a minute ago, but now they’re gone.
If we can keep a firm grip on wisdom and discretion, we can avoid those pitfalls. They will protect us from fear and evil and give us confidence. But, how can we hold on to them with so many forces trying to snatch them away? Duct tape? Nah, prayer probably would work better.
