—Hebrews 2:5-9
by: Linda Harris.
The author who wrote these words also proclaimed that "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (11:1, KJV). In faith, we know that the entire world-all of creation-is subject to the power and will of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This reality, the dominion of Christ, is part of the foundation of our faith. It is, at the very same time, awfully hard to see. In fact, "we do not yet see all things subjected to him" (2:8).
Where does this leave us? It reminds us that God's power is displayed in the suffering of death. It lets us remember that God may define power differently than we do. God, in his time, will demonstrate the subjection of all things. We should never deign to step in for him.
