—Hebrews 12:8-11
by: Leota Stevens.
My momma was a kind and loving lady, but she would not tolerate disrespect or disobedience. Once when I was about twelve years old, and thought I knew just about all there was to know, I challenged my mother’s authority over me. What an impudent attitude I displayed to her that day! Some parents would have let my stinging remarks slide and just chalk them up to childishness, but not my momma. Although I towered over her in size, she had no difficulty giving me a spanking that humbled my haughtiness and left a “real impression” on me. She spoke quietly to me later about my rebellious heart and reassured me of her loving devotion to my life. She said she took no joy in my punishment, but she would betray her position as my guardian if she allowed me to develop habits that would ruin me later in life. God loves his children even more than my momma loved me.
