—1 Chronicles 28:9-10
by: Linda Harris.
David charged Solomon to serve God wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, Solomon later strayed from his devotion to God. People refer to a halfhearted attempt, implying minimal effort spent to accomplish a task. Many Christians live halfheartedly, yet God desires our whole heart. There are at least twenty references in the Bible to serving, loving or worshipping God with “all your heart” or “wholeheartedly.”
Ephesians 6:7 says, “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men” (NIV). What does serving God wholeheartedly mean to you? Does it seem like too much work? Does it mean having a willing heart? Singleness of mind? Take time today to consider how you will be whole-hearted in your devotion to God.
