—Psalm 137:1-7
by: Linda Harris.
Do you feel uncomfortable reading this psalm? There’s nothing joyful or uplifting in it. The exiles remembered their abuse in Babylon. We tend to recoil from such expressions of pain and anguish. Yet the Bible is full of laments.
Warren Wiersbe writes, “The fact that the exiles could talk about these painful things indicates that they were facing them honestly and learning how to process this pain in a mature way. It takes time for broken hearts to heal, and Jesus can heal them if we give Him all the pieces.”
What aching memories still pierce your heart? Have you tried to bury them, or are you working to heal them? Ask God to unearth any hidden memories and to give you wisdom to deal with them.
