—Luke 22:14-20
by: Dale Rood.
This passage tells of the Last Supper of the Lord Jesus with His disciples. It was the institution of what we continue to observe in our churches as Communion or the Lord’s Supper. It is interesting that in many churches it is called the Eucharist, a term which comes from the Greek word meaning the giving of thanks. Truly in this memorial service there is much to give thanks for. It anticipates Christ’s return with the ushering in of the Kingdom of God and the fulfillment of all God’s purposes (v.18). It is a visual reminder of how Jesus, as the Bread of Life, was broken for us that we might be made whole. It is, again, a visual reminder of how His life is poured into us as we trust Him as our Savior and Lord.
