—Psalm 25:1-9
by: Kristin Camenga.
Sometimes we need deliverance from ourselves more than from our circumstances. We see in ourselves the fears, bad habits, and negative reactions that can paralyze us and kill our relationships. In this psalm, David speaks of his past sins and his rebellious ways (v. 7) and asks the Lord for help to learn his ways instead. Deliverance requires a change in who he is-a change that he is not capable of producing on his own. Are we willing to come to God and lift up our souls (v. 1), putting ourselves entirely in God's hands so that he can teach and guide us and deliver us from ourselves? Are we willing to get off our own paths and get on God's paths, to humble ourselves and listen to God's instruction? We have the promise that if we hope and trust in him, we will not be put to shame (v. 3), but will be victorious.
