—Isaiah 12:1-6
by: Jerry Johnson.
This climactic song of triumph is almost a doxology to a Second Exodus for Israel. This one celebrates the deliverance of the people from their sin. The form is even similar to Moses’ words in Exodus fifteen. Elsewhere in Isaiah the Lord is seen as worthy of praise for initiating salvation with his people (see 49:6, 8; 51:6; 56:1; and 62:1). The use of YAH, the LORD, means that there is absolute confidence in the certainty of salvation. Its wells of water are analogous to what Jesus means in John 4:14. When we trust in Christ there is no reason to fear. His name is known throughout the earth.
