—Genesis 42:1-24
by: Linda Harris.
Joseph’s first dream—that his brothers would bow before him—came true (Genesis 37:6-7). He remembered his dream, but not in the sense that he had forgotten; it came to mind as his brothers bowed.
The brothers also remembered. They had mistreated Joseph and felt they were being punished for their sins. They were unaware this was the brother they sold into slavery. Joseph understood every word, as his brothers bemoaned their predicament. Reuben refused to take responsibility: “I told you that you shouldn’t have done it!” He was as guilty as the others, even if he didn’t take part in selling Joseph as a slave. When we are caught in a sin, do we make excuses or take responsibility?
