It is the believer's job to protect and preserve the unity of the church. We do that by focusing on our common bonds and not on our differences. God chose to give us different personalities, backgrounds, and preferences, yet we sometimes spend much effort and time trying to make us all alike. Unity, not uniformity, is God's desire. Our more important common bonds include one Lord, one body, one purpose, one Spirit, one hope, one faith, one baptism, and one love.
Refusing to listen to gossip is another way to protect the unity of the body. People who share gossip with you will also share gossip about you.
