I think it’s very interesting that the Scripture tells us that Zacharias was “chosen by lot…to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.” God obviously had his hand in the drawing of lots to ensure that Zacharias was in a place where the angel of the Lord could appear to him with the very important message God had for him. God has his hand in the places we “end up” as well. While we have been created with the ability to make decisions that influence our paths in life, God’s hand also guides us. When we are serving as his servant, whether it is in a formal ministry position in the church, taking out the trash at home, or reading a story to one of our children, God may make those moments divine appointments and may speak to us there. God doesn’t always use angels as his messengers, and we won’t always recognize the message as his initially, but we must be open to his messages throughout our day.
