—Genesis 15:1-6
by: Angie Osborn.
Abram was trying to faithfully follow God. He had done as God had asked him in regards to Lot’s rescue (chapter 13) and was trying to follow obediently. But there was that nagging issue of God’s promise that Abram would have descendants. From Abram’s perspective, it was taking too long. That caused Abram to have an internal battle of feeling let down by God, but also wanting to follow Him faithfully. In verse 15:1, God reminded him that He was Abram’s shield and great reward. We, too, struggle with that tight rope walk between faith and questioning God’s timing, motives, or purposes. Like Abram, we need to keep our focus on the fact that God is our shield. He has a plan. He will see us through. And in the process, He will go before us, protecting and shielding us from harm.
