—2 Chronicles 14:1-7
by: Jean Jorgensen.
Most languages have a word for peace, often expressed in greetings and farewells: shalom (Hebrew), aloha (Hawaiian), hello (English). Often, the sentiment adds prosperity, “May you have peace and prosperity.” When we say “hello,” are we wishing peace to the recipient, or simply recognizing their presence? For me, shalom expresses God’s presence and peace. Asa sought God, and God gave rest and prosperity. Yet later in the chapter, they were caught up in war. Asa sought God at the war front, and God fought the war for them. Seeking God brings peace in any circumstance. Peace comes from God, so we will know he is with us.
