—Exodus 1:8-14

If the new king had known about Joseph, how would this story have been different? Fear sets in when knowledge is absent. If you did not know that a bleeding cut on the finger would heal (with proper care), fear could tell that you would bleed to death. If you find yourself fearing something, seek knowledge about what you fear. This king did not seek knowledge. He acted on fear. History teaches that oppression often leads to uprisings. The Israelite population increased, multiplying fear. We impose bondage upon ourselves when choosing fear over knowledge. We impose bondage on others when choosing gossip or criticism over knowledge.
