When something new is done at church, you can almost count on receiving criticism about it. In today’s scripture, it was hard for the Jewish believers to accept that Peter dined with Gentiles. They applied their old way of thinking to God’s gospel message, but God had something new in mind.
It had been prophesied through Abraham and the Old Testament prophets that God would call all nations to himself. It took this vision, shocking as it was to Peter, to overcome the barrier that centuries had built between Jew and Gentile. At last, they were both brothers and heirs of God’s kingdom.
