There is another aspect to commissioning that we did not consider yesterday, and that is the impartation of actual power from above. Moses’ term of leadership ends with his death, and Joshua’s term of leadership then begins. Something else happened when Moses laid hands on Joshua and commissioned him (see Numbers 27:23), and that was a releasing of the power of God upon Joshua (v. 9). We see here that this impartation was also a reason for the Israelites to listen to Joshua as their leader and to obey him. In what ways do we practice the impartation of God’s power today?
