The lame man was asking for help without really expecting to get anything. He was used to sitting in the gate and asking for money. He was also used to having people walk by without responding. It was only after Peter said, “Look at us,” that the lame man gave “them his attention, expecting to get something from them” (v. 5).
When we learn to ask for the wrong things from God, we may learn to expect nothing in response. Let us learn to approach him expecting that he will meet our needs (Matthew 6:8).
