Peter, having seized the opportunity to preach the gospel to the gathering crowd, also attracted the attention of the religious establishment. The leaders wanted to contain the message they were preaching. By the time the authorities arrived, however, many had heard and believed Peter’s message.
After holding Peter and John overnight in jail in a desperate attempt at control, the authorities began to question their captives. In those moments when we function as religious authorities, how do we respond when a newcomer proposes an idea for a new kind of ministry—or when ministry outside of established structure starts drawing people to God?
