—Nehemiah 1:5-11
by: Jean Jorgensen.
For four months Nehemiah talked with God, fasted, confessed his sins, the sins of others, and petitioned God to act: “Come on God! Do something! You promised.” The more Nehemiah prayed, the more his heart was opened to ask God what he could do. At some point, I imagine he prayed, “Why now? Why me?” God assured him that the time was right to act, which gave him confidence. It reminds us that as we pray, God will give his people a new heart, a new Spirit, and a new confidence to act.
