—John 1:15-28
by: Gabrielle Watt.
John the Baptist was out there preparing the world for the Messiah, just as God had said he would. He knew that Jesus was the Messiah, that His existence predated His time on earth, that He was in closest relationship with God, and also was God. Furthermore, John unashamedly and humbly declared that Jesus was much more important than John was. He emphasized to the religious leaders that he was neither Christ, Elijah, nor the Prophet that God promised in the Old Testament. His job was to prepare the way of the Lord (from Isaiah 40:3, and to baptize with water. Why would the religious leaders assume John the Baptist was Christ, Elijah, or the Prophet?
