—Jonah 3
by: Michaella Osborn.
The Ninevites deserved to die. Their wickedness was so great that God had planned to destroy them. But even as He was ready to destroy the whole city, He sent a messenger with an opportunity—a path to life if they would turn from their wickedness and follow Him. In many ways, Jesus was a greater version of Jonah: an outsider sent to give a message to evil, sinful people, that if they would repent and follow God, they could be spared. Yet, Jesus acted with love while Jonah was hateful; obedient while Jonah was begrudging; and joyful at the repentance of people while Jonah was filled with spite. What do the parallels between Jesus’ story and Jonah’s story teach us about God and His character?
