—Psalm 121:5-8
by: Linda Harris.
Legends persist that the moon affects people’s behavior. The word lunatic relates to lunar or the phases of the moon. Perhaps this is what the psalmist meant by “the moon [will not harm you] by night” (121:7, NIV). Superstition can’t trump God’s protection.
Does verse 8 mean that no harm will ever come to believers? Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33, NIV). Troubles may come, but God’s protection keeps evil from overcoming believers. Instead of asking “Why?” when trials come, rejoice in God’s protection and ask, “What does God want me to learn from this?”
