—John 18:38-19:5
by: Andrew J. Camenga.
Jesus Christ is the author and perfecter of our faith. He stands taller and brighter than any other human does. His innocence was obvious to Pilate. In the light of what he saw, Pilate wanted to save Jesus from the crucifixion that was requested. He tried to persuade the crowd to accept Jesus as his Passover gift to the people. When that failed, he thought that the appearance of Jesus would sway the opinion of the crowd. Setting Jesus before them, he proclaimed, "Behold, the man!" The effort of Pilate did not work. The crowd had already decided how to treat Jesus. The crowd could not see Jesus. We can. Let us learn to fix our eyes on Jesus.
