“Hurt people hurt people” (Beth Moore, The Beloved Disciple, 201). When I consider that corrupt communication or words echoing a bitter and angry heart grieve not only the person to whom they’re spoken but also the Holy Spirit, I want to “be still and know that [He] is God” (Psalm 46:10, KJV). Only in that stillness will I be able to hear his still, small voice of love.
I have a friend, Pat Shackleford, whose words regularly encourage, heal and inspire; it’s evident she must “be still” a lot. Beth Moore writes, “Our God will only tell us the truth, and one of his chief truths is that loving is always worth doing” (The Beloved Disciple, 212). “Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13: 8, NIV).
