What is this grace through which Paul speaks and with which we are gifted? Defined as “unmerited favor,” perhaps God’s grace can be pictured as beautifully wrapped gifts set at each place on the banquet table. Unlike a door prize which may go to just one person, a favor is given to each of us. Upon opening our gifts, we find long-handled forks, useful only if each person feeds the person across from him. This is described by someone as a picture of heaven. I can see it as the body of Christ now. Thanks to Paul’s sharing his gift, I am already eating much needed spiritual food. How generously am I serving the others at my table?
